Taiwan Youth Employment Flagship Program aids semiconductor talent

The Ministry of Labor’s ‘Youth Employment Flagship Program’ is helping young professionals transition into the semiconductor industry through a ‘hire-first, train-later’ model. This initiative provides on-the-job training and workplace mentorship to bridge the gap between academic backgrounds and practical hardware requirements.

One successful participant, Huang Wei-che, a graduate in Industrial Engineering and Management from Minghsin University of Science and Technology, utilized the program to join I-Tech Co., Ltd. as a reliability engineer. Despite lacking a pure electrical engineering background, Huang gained proficiency in hardware architecture, instrument reading, and equipment operation under the guidance of a workplace mentor.

I-Tech Co., Ltd. noted that the program’s institutionalized training and mentorship system effectively reduce the initial costs and risks associated with training cross-disciplinary talent. The program aims to meet the growing demand for skilled labor in the technology sector while enhancing the employability of youth aged 15 to 29.
