Taiwanese authorities seize Zhang Xue motorcycle imported via parts

Taiwanese authorities have seized the first Zhang Xue 820RR motorcycle in Taiwan after discovering it was imported through a method intended to bypass trade restrictions. Under the ‘Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area’, heavy motorcycles and their engines manufactured in mainland China are prohibited from being imported into Taiwan.

A local owner reportedly purchased the vehicle in Guangzhou, disassembled it into components, and shipped the parts separately to Taiwan before manually reassembling the motorcycle. The Ministry of Economic Affairs stated that this method of importing disassembled parts to circumvent regulations does not constitute a normal import of goods.

In response to the seizure, Zhang Xue, the chairman of Zhang Xue Motorcycles, stated on social media that the company would cover all legal fees for the owner. He also pledged to continue providing replacement motorcycles if subsequent attempts to import them are also seized.

Meanwhile, officials from mainland China's Taiwan Affairs Office criticized the seizure, accusing Taiwanese authorities of obstructing the entry of high-quality mainland products and harming consumer rights.
