Taiwanese candidates campaign on tourism and market revitalization
Political candidates in Taiwan are conducting grassroots campaigns focused on local tourism and economic development.
In Taichung, mayoral candidate Chiang Chi-chen visited the Dakang Scenic Area to propose a flagship leisure brand combining hiking with local hot spring resources. His platform includes upgrading scenic area hardware, installing barrier-free paths, and implementing smart navigation. To address traffic congestion, he proposed increasing shuttle services and integrating shared mobility options like electric bicycles to support low-carbon tourism. Additionally, Chiang introduced a ‘three arrows for grassroots economy’ policy, which aims to assist small vendors with digital transformation, upgrade traditional market infrastructure, and provide financial support for young entrepreneurs.
In Kaohsiung, city council candidate Chang Yi-li, accompanied by former legislator Chen Po-wei, visited the Demin Twilight Market in Nanzhi. Chang emphasized the importance of traditional markets as community hubs and highlighted the growing trend of young entrepreneurs revitalizing these spaces. She pledged to support market environmental improvements and resources for the younger generation of vendors to ensure the continuity of local market culture.
