Taiwanese cities host Halloween community and welfare events
Various local government initiatives in Taiwan are utilizing Halloween festivities to promote social welfare and community engagement.
In Taoyuan, the Social Affairs Bureau organized a public welfare lottery market under the theme ‘Doing Good Without Trickery.’ The event featured over 20 organizations, including social welfare groups, sheltered workshops, and multicultural vendors. The market aimed to demonstrate how public welfare lottery surpluses fund services for the elderly, children, persons with disabilities, and ethnic minorities. Participating groups included the Taoyuan Kidney Friends Association and various disability support organizations, alongside multicultural stalls representing Thai and Vietnamese communities.
In Keelung, Deputy Mayor Chiu Pei-lin led a Halloween parade for children from the Keelung City Disability Welfare Service Center. The event, designed to enhance social participation and provide a safe festive experience for children with disabilities, involved a parade through the city government building where staff distributed treats to the participants.
