Taiwanese counties hold environmental knowledge competitions

Local governments in Yilan and Hualien counties, Taiwan, have held environmental knowledge competitions to promote public awareness of climate change and net-zero sustainability goals.

In Yilan, the competition held at National Ilan University involved students from elementary through high school levels, as well as members of the general public. The contest focused on themes such as renewable energy, green living, the 2050 net-zero emission pathway, and circular economy. Top performers from each category will represent Yilan in the national finals.

Similarly, Hualien County conducted its preliminary rounds at Zhuqiang Elementary School. The competition featured four categories: elementary, junior high, senior high/vocational, and social groups. Participants underwent written exams and elimination rounds covering international environmental issues and national policies. The top five contestants from each group in Hualien will advance to the national competition organized by the Ministry of Environment.
