Taiwanese cultural events highlight environmental and historical narratives
Cultural and environmental initiatives in Taiwan are highlighting historical and ecological narratives through exhibitions and film. The See Your Taiwan Foundation’s annual exhibition, “RE-seeing: Zeppelin Overlooking Taiwan,” has attracted over 5,000 visitors at the Zeppelin Space in Tamsui. The exhibition uses aerial photography to explore themes of mountains, rivers, seas, and cities, aiming to encourage viewers to rediscover and act upon environmental issues.
Accompanying the exhibition is a lecture series featuring environmental experts. Topics include the relationship between nature and human resilience, as well as technical discussions on forest conservation and river restoration. The series seeks to connect high-altitude perspectives with ground-level environmental stewardship.
In a separate cultural event, the documentary “520 Incident” was screened in collaboration with the Taiwan International Documentary Film Festival. The film records the 1988 farmers' movement in Taiwan, documenting the protests and subsequent clashes with police following government decisions to expand agricultural imports. The screening included discussions on the evolution of farmers' rights and the historical significance of the movement.
