Taiwanese director holds temple screenings for religious film
Director Wang Chung-cheng and the production company 1895 Film Co., Ltd. have launched a unique cultural tour in Taiwan for the religious fantasy film ‘March 23rd of the Lunar Calendar’. Since its release in May, the film has gained significant attention within Taiwan’s film and religious communities.
To fulfill a spiritual vow made at the Beigang Chaotian Temple, the film crew and actors, including Tsai A-po and Wu Cheng-hsun, are conducting special screenings directly within traditional temples. These events have taken place at major religious sites such as the Ci-Hu Temple in Taoyuan, the Fu-He Temple in Zhonghe, and the City God Temple in Chiayi.
Beyond standard promotion, the tour aims to promote and root Taiwanese folk beliefs by bringing the film back to the temple courtyards that inspired its spiritual essence. Director Wang expressed that the project seeks to remind audiences to maintain a pure heart and kindness amidst the complexities of modern society.
