Taiwanese film Sunshine Women's Choir hits Netflix as Dolly Parton passes away
The Taiwanese film ‘Sunshine Women's Choir’, directed by Gavin Lin, has arrived on Netflix following its success as a major local box office hit in Taiwan. A remake of the 2010 Korean film ‘Harmony’, the story is set within a women's prison and focuses on themes of rehabilitation and redemption.
The narrative follows Li Hui-Zhen, played by Chen Yi-Han, a mother who gives birth in prison and can only keep her daughter until the child reaches age three. When the child is diagnosed with an eye condition requiring external medical care, the mother uses music to create a lasting bond through a choir.
In separate cultural news, country music icon Dolly Parton has passed away at the age of 80. Known as the queen of country music, she authored hits such as ‘Jolene’ and the original version of ‘I Will Always Love You’. Beyond her musical and film career, Parton was a noted philanthropist, particularly through her Imagination Library initiative aimed at improving literacy.
