Taiwanese five-star hotels fined for food safety violations

The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration conducted a food safety inspection of 48 international tourism and five-star hotels, resulting in fines totaling 466,000 TWD for six violating establishments.

TransAsia Taisun Evergreen Hotel received the heaviest penalties, totaling 220,000 TWD. Its violations included improper freezer temperatures, mislabeling the origin of pork (claiming Taiwan or US sources while using meat from Canada and Austria), storing expired products such as gold leaf, and failing to employ required specialized personnel or complete necessary hygiene training.

Other penalized hotels included Kingda Hotel for storing expired toast, NICE Prince Hotel for expired sterilized egg liquid, and Caesar Park Tainan for failing to label genetically modified tofu. Other violations across the group involved missing specialized staff and incomplete HACCP training. While these administrative and storage violations were identified, all 108 food samples tested during the inspection, including sashimi and various processed goods, met safety standards.
