Taiwanese groups hold New York parade for UN membership
Taiwanese community members, legislators, and civil groups held a parade in Manhattan, New York, to advocate for Taiwan’s inclusion in the United Nations. Participants marched through central locations including Times Square and Bryant Park, chanting slogans such as ‘UN for Taiwan’ and ‘Keep Taiwan Free’.
The event featured a cross-party delegation of Taiwanese legislators and was supported by officials from allied nations. John Silk, the Marshall Islands’ representative to the UN, attended the march to express support for Taiwan’s goal of participating in UN meetings as a member.
Organizers noted that while previous efforts focused specifically on the UN and the World Health Organization, current objectives have expanded to include participation in various friendly international organizations. To coincide with the 81st UN General Assembly, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York also launched a promotional campaign involving digital advertisements on LED billboards and mobile advertisements on taxis and buses throughout Midtown Manhattan.
