Taiwanese legislators receive mixed verdicts in corruption appeals

The second instance rulings in several high-profile corruption cases involving Taiwanese legislators have been released. In the collective bribery case involving legislators, Chen Chao-ming and Hsu Yung-ming have been acquitted upon appeal, reversing their previous first-instance convictions. However, Su Chen-ching and Liao Kuo-tung have had their original sentences upheld, with Su facing a 10-year prison term and Liao an 8-year and 6-month sentence.

Separately, Chang Chun, the Hualien County Council Speaker and a candidate for Hualien County Magistrate, has been cleared of charges in a 13-year-old LED procurement corruption case. Following the finalization of his innocence, Chang stated that the judicial process has restored his reputation and expressed his intention to focus on serving Hualien, addressing local issues such as industry revitalization, transportation, and disaster response.
