Taiwanese local governments honor centenarians for Chongyang Festival

Local governments in Taiwan are conducting celebrations and welfare distributions to honor centenarians ahead of the Chongyang Festival.

In Tainan, Mayor Huang Wei-che visited 100-year-old Zheng Deng-he to present a 10,000 TWD gift and presidential honors. The city, which has 407 residents aged 100 or older, is focusing on long-term care and social participation to address its aging population. The municipal government provides various services, including subsidies for dental care and emergency rescue for seniors living alone.

In Yilan County, Acting County Magistrate Lin Mao-sheng presented 113 centenarians with 20,000 TWD in gift money, pig trotter vermicelli, apples, and flowers. This year, the county collaborated with a local restaurant to provide specially prepared nutritious congee for the elderly. The highest-aged resident in the county, aged 112, received a personal visit from the Acting Magistrate.
