Taiwanese local governments promote community sports and senior wellness

Local governments in Taiwan are implementing various initiatives to promote physical activity and social engagement among citizens, with a particular focus on senior wellness.

In Lienchiang County, the government organized National Sports Day activities, including a large-scale hike and an awards ceremony to honor grassroots sports contributors and athletes. Additionally, the county launched a ‘Happy Croquet Camp’ specifically for seniors to encourage outdoor exercise and social interaction through club sports.

In Changhua County, the ‘Silver Rummikub Tournament’ drew approximately 500 elderly participants and volunteers. The event featured oversized game tiles to facilitate easier play and aimed to enhance cognitive health and social participation among the elderly. The county continues to expand welfare benefits, such as subsidies for national fitness centers, to support an aging society.
