Taiwanese medical sector advances AI and 3D imaging integration

Taiwanese medical and technology sectors are accelerating the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 3D imaging into clinical practice. At the 2026 Domestic AI 3D Medical Imaging and Metaverse Application Conference, MacKay Memorial Hospital President Chang Wen-han emphasized that for AI to be successfully adopted in clinical settings, systems must be “usable, courageous to use, and easy to use,” focusing on verifiable and responsible frameworks.

MacKay Memorial Hospital has already implemented 3D imaging to create “digital virtual twins” from CT and MRI scans, assisting in surgical planning for general surgery, orthopedics, and obstetrics. This technology aims to provide intelligent navigation during procedures to enhance precision and patient safety.

Simultaneously, the Healthcare Systems Alliance (HSC) held its 10th anniversary conference to discuss the global expansion of smart healthcare. The event highlighted the potential of “Physical AI,” such as Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR), to reduce ICU mortality rates and alleviate medical staff workloads. Experts noted that Taiwan’s competitive advantage lies in a “golden triangle” of manufacturing power, computing power, and medical AI. Strategies discussed include leveraging global Catholic medical networks to distribute Taiwanese ICT and AI solutions to thousands of hospitals and clinics worldwide, while establishing validation mechanisms with European partners to enter the EU market.
