Taiwanese musical ensembles hold major concert series and anniversary performances
The Octagon Men's Choir has concluded its ‘Hearing the Sounds of Taiwan’ concert series, organized by the National Taiwan Library. The four-month tour, which ran from June to September, featured a variety of local Taiwanese songs, including Hokkien poetry, children's songs, and baseball-themed tracks, alongside international folk songs and spirituals.
The final performance, ‘Meeting the World through Song,’ took place on September 11 at the No. 4 Park Cultural and Creative Performance Hall in New Taipei City, drawing nearly 500 attendees. The choir has announced an upcoming performance titled ‘Formosa Pure Brewing History’ at the National Concert Hall on September 21.
Separately, the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) has launched its 40th-anniversary season with performances in Taipei and Kaohsiung. Led by Music Director Jun Märzendorf, the concerts feature violinist Junwen Huang and guest concertmaster Kuan-Yu Lin. The program includes works by Grieg and Prokofiev, as well as the world premiere of ‘Form, 40’ by composer Zhu Qingyang.
