Taiwanese sports teams face US opponents in baseball and basketball

In international youth and amateur sports, teams from Taiwan faced challenging matchups against United States representatives.

In the 2026 Little League Baseball World Cup, Xinming Junior High School from Taoyuan reached the championship game but finished as the runner-up. After a tightly contested battle that went into extra innings, the team fell 3-6 to the California representative. The game remained tied at 3-3 heading into the tenth inning, where a three-run home run by the American side secured the victory.

In basketball, the Chinese Taipei White team suffered a 57-81 loss to the University of California, Irvine during the 45th Jones Cup. Despite a notable long-distance shot from backcourt by Kao Kuo-hao, the team struggled to contain the American side. UCI maintained control throughout the second half, securing a 24-point victory and advancing to the semifinals.
