Taiwanese startups expand innovation ties into Japan's Kansai region

Taiwanese digital and startup entities are significantly expanding their presence in Japan, moving beyond the Kanto region into the Kansai area to foster innovation in AI, semiconductors, and smart technologies. During the 5th Taiwan-Japan Innovation Summit in Tokyo, Startup Island TAIWAN facilitated connections between 46 Taiwanese startups and major international corporations, including Mitsubishi Corporation and Sony.

Strategic partnerships have been formalized to bridge the two ecosystems. Startup Island TAIWAN signed a memorandum of understanding with Hankyu Hanshin Properties to connect Taiwanese startups with industries in Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe, focusing on smart city applications such as transportation, tourism, and retail.

Additionally, a delegation of eight Taiwanese digital companies, led by Taiwan's Digital Ministry, visited Japan to explore collaborations in digital transformation (DX), smart logistics, and cybersecurity. Notably, CloudMile (騰雲科技) signed an MOU with ITEC Hankyu Hanshin to implement AI and DX solutions within the Japanese retail and distribution sectors. These initiatives aim to leverage Taiwan's expertise in AI and software alongside Japan's robust industrial base and market resources.
