Taiwanese students advance AI expertise through hackathons and cross-university programs

Students in Taiwan are achieving significant milestones in artificial intelligence education through both competitive innovation and cross-institutional academic programs.

At the n8n Taiwan Open 2026 campus AI workflow hackathon, Wu Yi-ming from Chaoyang University of Technology won the grand prize. His winning project, ‘Criterion Lite,’ utilizes the n8n low-code platform to create a multimodal AI assistant for teachers. The tool automates the grading of text, code, images, and PDFs, providing structured feedback and evidence to improve instructional efficiency.

Simultaneously, Chang Gung University is advancing interdisciplinary AI training through the Ministry of Education’s Taiwan Artificial Intelligence College Alliance (TAICA). This initiative allows students to access AI expertise from various top-tier universities without changing their primary majors. Guo Zhao-yang, a Biomedical Engineering student at Chang Gung, became the first to receive a TAICA certificate after completing 15 credits in AI courses across multiple institutions, including National Taiwan University and Tsing Hua University. The program aims to equip professionals in fields like medicine and engineering with the ability to integrate AI into their specific domains.
