Taiwanese tech firms urged to build U.S. brand presence

Patrick Wilson, founder of the Semiconductor & Innovation Group, has advised Taiwanese technology companies to increase their presence in the United States to build stronger brand recognition. Speaking at a Global Taiwan Institute seminar, Wilson noted that while Taiwanese firms are critical to the success of major American companies like Google, Microsoft, and Nvidia, they lack the consumer brand presence seen in competitors from South Korea and Japan.

Wilson highlighted a communication gap where many American politicians and consumers are unaware of how vital Taiwanese technology is to everyday products, such as Amazon devices and Google home services. He suggested that Taiwanese business leaders should visit the U.S. more frequently, particularly in states where they are investing, such as Arizona, Indiana, and Texas, to engage with local governments and the public.

He further noted that unlike South Korean firms which have decades of experience navigating the American market and government relations, Taiwanese companies often operate in the upstream sector and lack experience in direct consumer branding and large-scale public engagement.
