Taiwanese vocational students win awards at international skills competitions
Students from Taiwanese vocational schools have achieved notable success in international skills competitions.
At the 8th Taiwan International Culinary Arts Challenge (TCAC) held at the Taipei World Trade Center, students from Taipei Yuda High School’s Tourism Department won two silver and two bronze medals in the beverage and cocktail category. Award-winning entries included ‘Autumn Chill,’ which utilized genmaicha and coconut syrup, and ‘Flower Moon Fragrance,’ featuring pineapple juice and rose oolong. Additionally, 27 students from the school’s food and beverage management and baking departments provided volunteer support during the four-day event.
In the 48th WorldSkills Competition held in Shanghai, alumni of Mingdao Middle School, Chen Pin-rui and Lai Si-yu, earned excellence awards representing Taiwan. Chen Pin-rui was recognized in the Western Culinary category, while Lai Si-yu received honors in Graphic Design. Both competitors highlighted the importance of fundamental skills and the ability to adapt to sudden challenges, such as last-minute task announcements and equipment malfunctions, during the high-pressure international event.
