Taiwan's Fengmiao 1 Wind Farm Completes Record Offshore Substation, Export Cables

On 5 August 2026 the 495 MW Fengmiao 1 offshore wind farm off Taiwan completed two major construction milestones. Jan De Nul’s cable‑laying vessel Willem de Vlamingh pulled the 45‑km and 44‑km high‑voltage export cables into the newly installed offshore substation, finalising the grid connection. The same day CDWE – a joint venture of DEME and Taiwan’s CSBC – finished installing the substation’s 99 pin‑pile foundation and topside, a structure weighing over 8,000 tonnes, the largest offshore substation ever built in Taiwan.

The project, developed by Copenhagen Offshore Partners for Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, is the first Round 3 offshore wind initiative in Taiwan, reached financial close in 2025 and is slated to begin commercial operation in 2027. Remaining work includes installing 33 jacket foundations for Vestas V236‑15 MW turbines and laying inter‑array cables, with Van Oord handling cable installation. The wind farm is located about 35 km off the coast of Taichung.
