Taiwan’s Taoyuan and Keelung push smart, sustainable city plans at 2026 SDGs Forum

The 2026 SDGs Sustainable City Exchange Forum was held in New Taipei City and was attended by Taoyuan mayor Zhang Shan‑zheng, Digital Development Minister Lin Yi‑jing and other local officials. Zhang highlighted Taoyuan’s smart‑governance and energy‑innovation initiatives, such as the “Rescue One‑Way” traffic system that can cut ambulance travel time from four minutes to about 100 seconds, plans for an AI compute park that will use waste‑heat from the Datan Power Plant, the upcoming Green Line MRT, and expansion of medical and industrial zones.

Keelung deputy mayor Fang Ding‑an spoke about the city’s role as a maritime gateway and its participation in the “North‑North‑Keelung‑Taoyuan” life‑circle. He described the development of a smart port handling roughly one million cruise passengers annually, the integration of the Keelung MRT with New Taipei’s transit network, and social‑welfare projects such as a “one‑district‑one‑children’s indoor playground” and full‑age care services aimed at retaining residents and attracting talent.
