Taiwo Awoniyi joins Coventry City from Nottingham Forest
Taiwo Awoniyi has completed a permanent transfer from Nottingham Forest to Coventry City. The deal, reportedly valued between £17 million and €20 million, sees the 29-year-old Nigerian striker join the newly promoted Premier League side to bolster their attacking options under manager Frank Lampard.
Awoniyi’s departure from Nottingham Forest was marked by an emotional farewell at the City Ground, where players, staff, and fans provided a guard of honour during a pre-season friendly against Brest. During his four-year tenure at Forest, the striker scored 23 goals in 103 appearances, playing a key role in the club's efforts to maintain Premier League status.
At Coventry City, Awoniyi will reunite with fellow Nigerian international Frank Onyeka. The move follows a period of injury struggles for the forward, including a serious abdominal injury in 2025 that required surgery. His arrival is seen as a significant reinforcement for Coventry as they prepare for their first season back in the top flight after a 25-year absence.
