Taiyuan to host record-breaking World Taekwondo Women’s Open Championships

The 2026 World Taekwondo Women’s Open Championships in Taiyuan, China, is set to become the largest edition of the event. A record 391 athletes from 58 countries, along with the World Taekwondo Refugee Team, are registered to compete from August 28–30.

The competition will feature eight women’s weight categories. The entry list includes high-profile athletes such as Paris 2024 Olympic champion Viviana Márton of Hungary, Olympic gold medallist Yujin Kim of Korea, and the reigning -73kg world champion Sarah Chaâri of Belgium. Other notable participants include world champions and gold medallists from Türkiye, Côte d’Ivoire, and Russia.
