Taiz local authorities warn against Houthi forced recruitment

Local authorities in the Taiz governorate of Yemen have issued a formal warning against forced recruitment and mobilization campaigns conducted by Houthi militias in several districts. The authorities urged citizens, parents, educators, and youth to reject sectarian mobilization activities.

In an official statement, the Taiz media office reported that Houthi militias are attempting to exploit educational and community institutions to impose sectarian ideologies and alter school curricula. The authorities warned that these actions aim to undermine national identity and the principles of the republican system.

The statement further noted that those found facilitating or supporting these recruitment efforts will face legal accountability and deterrent measures in accordance with existing laws and Presidential Leadership Council decisions. The local government also highlighted the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Taiz, citing the continued siege of the city and shelling of residential areas despite claims from the militia regarding the opening of roads and humanitarian access.
