Taiz local authority rejects Houthi claims of opening roads
The local authority in Taiz has dismissed claims made by Houthi militias regarding the opening of roads as “misleading propaganda.” The authority stated that these claims attempt to shift responsibility for the ongoing blockade of Taiz onto local officials.
According to the local government, the Houthi-imposed siege has lasted approximately 12 years and has recently expanded to cover most districts of the province, threatening the lives and livelihoods of more than six million citizens. The authority noted that while the militia claims to seek road security, they continue to transform transit routes into military confrontation lines and increase military mobilization in rural and coastal areas.
The statement highlighted the humanitarian toll of the conflict, citing tens of thousands of casualties resulting from indiscriminate shelling, sniping, and landmines. The local authority reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens and ensuring the delivery of essential services and humanitarian aid in coordination with security and military forces.
