Taiz schools suspend classes amid military escalation
The Ministry of Education in Taiz, Yemen, has announced the suspension of all classes in public and private schools for October 4 and 5. This decision follows an escalation in military clashes and continuous shelling targeting residential neighborhoods.
The suspension comes amid intensified fighting between internationally recognized government forces and the Ansar Allah group (Houthis) across various fronts in the governorate. The military escalation has raised significant safety concerns for students and local residents.
According to a report by the Yemeni Human Rights and Freedoms Network, 61 human rights violations were documented in Taiz within a 24-hour period. These violations included the deaths of five civilians—including women and an infant—and injuries to 22 others, including seven women and six children. The report also noted damage to 21 homes and 12 vehicles, alongside attacks on public roads, which have hindered access to essential services, food, and medicine.
