Tajinderpal Singh Toor wins silver in Asian Games shot put

Indian shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor secured a silver medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, marking his third consecutive podium finish at the event. Toor achieved a best throw of 20.64 meters, following gold medal performances at the 2018 Jakarta and 2022 Hangzhou Games.

Iran’s Mohammadreza Tayebise claimed the gold medal by setting a new Asian Games record with a throw of 20.81 meters, surpassing Toor’s previous record of 20.75 meters set in 2018. Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Tolu earned the bronze medal with a throw of 20.48 meters.

Toor noted that his performance was hampered by minor injuries sustained over the previous three months and difficult weather conditions, including rain that made maintaining a grip challenging. Despite missing his goal of a gold medal hat-trick, Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha praised the achievement as a “remarkable hat-trick” of medals.
