Takara Tomy launches region-exclusive Plarail vehicle series

Takara Tomy has launched the first installment of its “Local Vehicle Series” for the Plarail railway toy line. The new series features sets that combine regional trains with iconic local landmarks and themed figures.

The initial release includes two specific sets: an Asakusa theme featuring the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line 1000 series and the Kaminarimon Gate, and a Kyoto theme featuring the Keihan Electric Railway 10000 series and Inari Shrine torii gates.

In a departure from standard retail practices, these products are not available through e-commerce sites like the Takara Tomy Mall. Instead, they are sold exclusively through physical retail locations within specific regions: the Asakusa set is available in stores across the Kanto region, while the Kyoto set is sold in the Kinki region. This strategy aims to provide a sense of exclusivity for travelers and locals alike.
