Takaroa Aerodrome undergoes 600 million franc modernization
The Takaroa Aerodrome in the Tuamotu archipelago is undergoing a major renovation project valued at nearly 600 million francs. The extensive works aim to bring the facilities up to modern standards and improve the passenger experience.
Key infrastructure upgrades include extending the current 1,050-meter runway by 228 meters and widening it by 7 meters. The project also involves renovating the entire terminal building and installing new light beacons. These improvements are expected to allow the island to accommodate ATR 72 aircraft.
Local residents have expressed relief regarding the commencement of the works, noting that the upgrades are essential for providing shelter and better conditions during rainy periods. This project follows the renovation of a main bridge connecting the village to the school and airport completed last year.
