Takashimaya reports rise in domestic department store sales

Takashimaya reported a 2.4% increase in domestic department store sales for September 2026, marking 14 consecutive months of growth. Tax-free sales rose by 12.8%, while sales excluding tax-free items grew by 1.1%.

Growth was driven by two primary factors. Domestic customers showed steady demand for autumn apparel and accessories, such as jackets and stoles, following a drop in temperature. Inbound tourism also boosted performance, with increased spending on high-end goods, cosmetics, children's items, hobbies, and sporting goods. While the number of inbound customers increased by 0.3%, the average spend per customer rose by 12.5%.
