Takeda suspends planned job cuts at its Pisa biopharma plant

Takeda Pharmaceutical announced the suspension of its decision to terminate temporary contracts for 67 workers at its newly built plant in Pisa, Italy. The pause was confirmed during a meeting on July 22 that involved Takeda, the staffing firm Adecco, the Tuscany regional authority, the municipality of Pisa and trade unions.

The companies and unions agreed to reconvene on August 6 to review Takeda’s restructuring plan and discuss possible social safety‑net measures. Takeda also reaffirmed that none of the 177 permanent employees at the site will lose their jobs, though they may be reassigned within the facility. The region noted Takeda’s commitment to invest over €30 million in the plant in the coming years and to present a concrete industrial plan at the next meeting.

Union representative Valerio Fabiani said the parties have exchanged “first assurances” and expressed confidence that a sustainable solution can be reached.
