Takeru Furuichi hits first professional home run for DeNA

DeNA BayStars catcher Takeru Furuichi recorded his first professional home run during a game against the Yakult Swallows at Yokohama Stadium. The home run, a solo shot to left field, came during a performance where he also demonstrated strong game management, helping pitcher Hosuke Fukazawa pitch seven scoreless innings.

Furuichi, who joined DeNA from the Seibu Lions following a player compensation move, has received praise from DeNA manager Ryoji Aikawa and coaching staff for his ability to read batters and lead pitchers. He attributed his improved physical strength and hitting ability to recent weight gain, noting he had previously been criticized for being too thin.

Despite his recent success, Furuichi maintains a humble approach, citing the “okagesama” (gratitude) mindset he learned during his time with the Lions. He continues to compete for a starting role within the BayStars' catching rotation alongside veterans and rising prospects.
