Takeshi Ishii wins WBA minimumweight title with record 65-second KO

Professional boxer Takeshi Ishii captured the WBA minimumweight world title with a record-breaking knockout victory against Wilfredo Mendez. The match, held at Yokohama BUNTAI, concluded in just 65 seconds during the first round.

Ishii’s 1-minute and 5-second knockout time sets a new record for the fastest world title victory by a Japanese male boxer, surpassing the previous record of 1 minute and 10 seconds held by Naoya Inoue. The victory was secured after Ishii landed a left body shot followed by a powerful right hook to the forehead.

At a press conference held at Ohashi Gym, Ishii expressed his gratitude to his supporters, noting that his achievement proves dreams can be realized through effort. Ohashi Gym chairman Hideyuki Ohashi indicated that Ishii’s first title defense is expected to be a mandatory match, potentially occurring within the year.
