Takoradi firefighters contain warehouse and bushfires

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), supported by the Air Force Base Fire Department, contained two separate fires in Takoradi on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

The first incident occurred at a warehouse belonging to Somoco Company Limited, a tricycle assembly firm located near the Takoradi Air Force Base. The fire, reported at 10:37 a.m., destroyed 10 tricycles. However, emergency responders prevented the blaze from spreading to a nearby mall and adjoining buildings, successfully saving more than 2,000 tricycles. The fire was fully extinguished by 11:20 a.m., and no casualties were reported. Investigations into the cause are ongoing.

A second fire, a bushfire near Takoradi Technical University (TTU), was reported at 11:55 a.m. Firefighters brought the blaze under control by 12:07 p.m. Preliminary findings suggest that uncontrolled refuse burning ignited dry weeds. No casualties were reported in this incident either. Authorities have reminded the public that uncontrolled bush burning is prohibited under the Control and Prevention of Bushfires Law, 1990.
