Talavera de la Reina Biometano Plant Dispute Between City and Government

The Talavera de la Reina city council has asked the administration to issue a precautionary suspension of the biometano plant project, aiming to halt further processing while several administrative procedures remain open. The request does not automatically stop the plant; a competent authority must decide on the suspension.

The regional government of Castilla‑La Mancha refuted the city's claim, stating that no priority project has been declared and no file is currently open. Delegado David Gómez said, “no hay declaración de proyecto prioritario y no hay expediente abierto” and noted that a previous file was archived. He also called the municipal assertion that an integrated environmental authorization exists “false”. The clash highlights a political dispute between the municipal PP administration and the regional authorities, alongside resident concerns about the plant’s proximity, traffic, waste management and other environmental impacts.
