Talavera de la Reina City Council issues duplicate waste tax charges

The City Council of Talavera de la Reina has acknowledged a technical error that resulted in the duplicate charging of waste collection fees for residents with direct debit payments. This error follows a recent nearly 100% increase in the tax rate, which saw annual costs for a typical family of three or four rise from approximately 67 euros to 123 euros.

In some instances, families were charged 247 euros instead of the required 123 euros. The municipal government, led by José Julián Gregorio (PP) in coalition with Vox, stated that they are working to cancel the charges centrally. Officials assured taxpayers that refunds will be processed automatically without the need for individual claims.

The opposition PSOE has criticized the administration, noting that the error has caused financial hardship for some residents, including leaving bank accounts in overdraft. The socialist group has demanded immediate resolution and specific attention to those facing banking consequences due to the mistake.
