Talavera Mayor calls for 2030 deadline for AVE high-speed rail
José Julián Gregorio, the Mayor of Talavera de la Reina, has called for increased speed in administrative procedures to ensure the high-speed AVE train connection is operational by 2030. Speaking at the X Southwest Iberian Corridor Forum in Madrid, Gregorio emphasized the necessity of meeting this deadline, noting that the infrastructure is vital for the development of Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Madrid, and Portugal.
The Mayor highlighted that Adif has recently put the AVE projects between Talavera and Talayuela out for tender. However, he urged that the projected 36-month timeframe be reduced as much as possible to avoid further delays. He specifically requested that the government expedite the environmental impact declaration, describing it as the fundamental element upon which the entire construction project relies.
The project is part of the strategic Madrid-Lisbon corridor, an international initiative aimed at strengthening connectivity between the two capitals and their surrounding territories. Gregorio noted that the 2030 target is particularly significant as it coincides with the FIFA World Cup.
