Talcahuano ports report stable cargo as CAP proposes San Vicente as Vaca Muerta export route

Talcahuano's port terminals, San Vicente Terminal Internacional (SVTI) and Talcahuano Terminal Portuario (TTP), reported stable cargo movement during the first half of 2026. SVTI moved 2,757,047 tons, a 1% decrease compared to the same period in 2025, driven by a 3% drop in containerized cargo despite a 36% increase in bulk goods. TTP saw a 1% growth, reaching 365,348 tons, primarily due to a 7% rise in break bulk cargo.

In a binational meeting between Neuquén and the Biobío Region, CAP Group CEO Nicolás Burr proposed using the San Vicente port infrastructure as a strategic outlet for production from the Vaca Muerta formation in Argentina. Burr noted that the distance from Neuquén to San Vicente is nearly half the distance to ports in Río Negro or Bahía Blanca. The proposal highlights the existing infrastructure at the former Huachipato site, which includes 35 kilometers of internal railway, two berths with depths up to 11 meters, and over 120 hectares of logistical support for containers and bulk goods.
