Talia Kapetanellis leads Central Coast Mariners scoring race
Talia Kapetanellis has emerged as a standout performer in the A-League Women after scoring three goals in Central Coast Mariners' opening two matches. The 21-year-old forward currently leads the golden boot race following a 4-2 victory over Brisbane and a 5-1 win against Canberra.
Kapetanellis's success follows a period of professional uncertainty. After being released by Western Sydney Wanderers at the end of the 2024-25 season, she considered retiring from football. She rebuilt her career through the NPLW with Sydney Uni and a successful stint at APIA Leichhardt, where she recorded 10 goals and 11 assists.
Under coach Dean Heffernan, Kapetanellis has formed a productive attacking unit alongside Peta Trimis and Skye Halmarick.
