Talib al-Abdulmohsen faces €715,000 victim compensation claim in Magdeburg Christmas market attack

The trial of Talib al-Abdulmohsen, the suspect in the December 2024 Magdeburg Christmas market attack, is ongoing in Germany. The attack involved Al‑Abdulmohsen driving a 340‑horsepower rental car into a crowd, killing six people – five women and a nine‑year‑old boy – and injuring many others. Prosecutors have charged him with six counts of murder and over 300 counts of attempted murder.

During the criminal proceedings, fourteen victims have filed civil claims for a total of roughly €715,000 in damages using an adhesion procedure attached to the criminal case. A verdict from the Magdeburg Regional Court is expected by 26 June, with the possibility of a life sentence followed by preventive detention. Al‑Abdulmohsen, who arrived in Germany in 2006 and has a history of conflicts with authorities, has shown no remorse, repeatedly insulted the judge and made conspiratorial remarks in court.
