Taliban and North Korea hold military talks in Russia

Taliban military officials held direct talks with North Korean representatives on the sidelines of Russia’s ‘Center 2026’ military exercises. The Afghan delegation, led by Nasibullah Madani, commander of the Joint Combat Training Command, met with North Korea’s military attaché in Moscow, Ro Ki-chol, during an arms exhibition.

While the Afghan Ministry of Defense released a photograph confirming the meeting, it did not disclose the specific contents of the discussions. The ministry stated that the talks focused on bilateral relations, the exchange of military expertise, specialized training, and potential areas of cooperation.

In addition to North Korea, the Afghan delegation held meetings with military representatives from several other nations, including China, India, Vietnam, Colombia, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. These contacts occur amid strengthening military ties between the Taliban and Russia, following a bilateral military cooperation agreement signed in May.
