Military police officer arrested in Embu das Artes for suspected feminicide

Vinícius Costa Silva, a military police officer, remains in custody following the death of his wife, Larissa Cruz Morata, in Embu das Artes, São Paulo. Morata, a 29-year-old radiology technician, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in their home bathroom.

Silva claims the death was a suicide following a discussion about ending their five-year relationship. His defense has submitted WhatsApp messages and audio transcripts to investigators, which they argue suggest Morata was experiencing emotional distress and suicidal thoughts. However, the victim's family strongly contests this version, describing the relationship as possessive and aggressive, and noting that Morata had expressed intentions to separate and move out with their two-year-old son.

Authorities have transitioned the investigation from a suspicious death to a potential feminicide. Preliminary forensic evidence, including the trajectory of the projectile, reportedly showed inconsistencies with the officer's account. Silva was arrested during the victim's wake and has been transferred to the Romão Gomes Military Prison while investigations continue.
