TalkTalk seeks to sell business units amid financial losses
TalkTalk, a major UK broadband provider, is attempting to sell its two primary business units amid severe financial distress. The company reported a £67 million loss for the three months ending August 2025, driven largely by finance costs that rose from £33 million to £72 million.
The telecom group is seeking buyers for its consumer broadband arm and its wholesale network business, PXC. Reports indicate that Opus Broadband has made an offer near £100 million for PXC, while private equity firm Epiris is also in discussions regarding the wholesale unit.
Once a significant challenger to providers like BT, Sky, and Virgin Media, TalkTalk has seen its customer base shrink from approximately four million in 2019 to between 1.5 million and 1.7 million today. The decline is attributed to increased competition from full-fibre networks, a shifting market, and a reputation for poor customer service regarding billing and technical faults. The company’s financial position remains strained by heavy debt following a £1.1 billion deal in 2021 that took the business private.
