Tallahassee police cite stand your ground law in Walgreens shooting
Police in Tallahassee, Florida, have declined to charge a man following a Sunday altercation at a Walgreens store that resulted in a gunshot wound. Authorities stated that the individual taken to the hospital was the aggressor in the incident, having “aggressively approached the victim” before the victim fired a shot.
The wounded assailant was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Following a consultation with the State Attorney’s Office, officials classified the event as a stand-your-ground incident. Under Florida law, individuals are permitted to defend themselves without a duty to retreat if they have a legal right to be in the location where they are assaulted.
