Tallinn: Delivery robot causes bus accident in Estonia

A collision between a city bus and an autonomous delivery robot occurred at an intersection in Tallinn, Estonia, resulting in injuries to nine people. According to Tallinn Transport (TLT), the small delivery vehicle reportedly disregarded a red light and entered the intersection.

To avoid a direct collision, the bus driver braked abruptly, causing several standing passengers to fall. While the robot was thrown across the road by the impact, it subsequently left the scene. Andrei Novikov, a board member of TLT, noted that the robot simply continued moving after the crash.

Starship Technologies, the manufacturer of the delivery robot, has contacted the police and initiated an internal investigation. Pepe Aaviksoo of Starship Technologies expressed regret over the incident, stating that safety remains the company’s top priority. The robots used in Estonia operate autonomously on sidewalks to deliver goods weighing up to 15 kilograms.
