Ítalo Ferreira advances to WSL Teahupo’o semifinals

Brazilian surfer Ítalo Ferreira has advanced to the semifinals of the World Surf League (WSL) event in Teahupo’o, Tahiti. As the current leader of the world rankings, Ferreira secured his spot by defeating Australian Ethan Ewing in the men's second heat. Ferreira recorded wave scores of 8.33 and 7.17, while Ewing scored 7.77 and 5.17.

Ferreira, a 2019 world champion and 2020 Olympic gold medalist, overcame initial physical challenges, including lower back pain, to reach this stage. He is currently the sole remaining Brazilian competitor in the event after several other Brazilian surfers were eliminated earlier in the competition.

In the semifinals, Ferreira is scheduled to face Hawaiian Seth Moniz, who advanced after defeating Mexican surfer Alan Cleland. The winner of the Teahupo’o stage is expected to be determined following the semifinal rounds.
