Talpa de Allende requests emergency status following storm damage
The municipality of Talpa de Allende in Jalisco, Mexico, has formally requested an emergency declaration following severe damage caused by recent meteorological events. The impact of Hurricane Polo and the progression of Tropical Storm Rachel have resulted in at least three confirmed deaths and one person reported missing.
Infrastructure damage includes 17 affected homes, three of which are considered total losses. Additionally, the state highway 555, which connects Talpa to Tomatlán, has faced closures due to heavy rainfall and storm force. Local authorities are currently conducting cleaning, sanitation, and road rehabilitation efforts.
Civil Protection Jalisco has activated emergency operation centers in Guadalajara and several coastal locations, including Puerto Vallarta and Cabo Corrientes, to monitor the situation. Forecasts indicate that Tropical Storm Rachel may intensify into a Category 1 hurricane, prompting continuous coordination between federal, state, and municipal agencies to manage potential impacts.
