Talsi Municipality faces flooding and power outages after severe storm

A severe storm in Latvia has caused widespread power outages and flooding, particularly affecting the Talsi Municipality. Due to the lack of electricity, kindergartens in Sabile, Stende, Jaunpagasts, and Dursupe are unable to operate normally. Talsi Municipality Council Chairman Ansis Bērziņš stated that the local government is working with the Education Department to find childcare solutions for affected families.

In the town of Roja, heavy rainfall has overwhelmed local drainage systems, leading to flooded streets, houses, and gardens. While the municipality is monitoring the situation, no evacuations are currently required. In Talsi, several streets, meadows, and fields are also underwater due to overflowing rivers and ditches.

Utility provider Sadales tīkls is working to restore power to the remaining customers, with approximately half of those affected having regained electricity as of Sunday. The municipality has also provided generators to assist local farmers.
