Tama City announces winners of youth senryu poetry contest

Tama City has announced the 12 winning entries for its ‘Reiwa 8 Tama City Children and Youth Senryu’ competition. The contest, themed ‘What is strange about today’s society!’, invited students from elementary school to university to express their views through humorous short poetry.

The winning works highlight various social issues from a youthful perspective, including rising prices and stagnant wages, the complexity of new bicycle regulations, and the pervasive use of smartphones and AI. Some entries also offered critiques of adult behavior and the distractions caused by digital devices in public spaces. The city aims to use this initiative to better understand and respect the perspectives of its younger residents.
